Managerial Consulting Undergraduate Certificate

The Managerial Consulting Certificate provides specialized training in the management consulting process as it applies to both internal (business development) and external (consulting industry) contexts. Students will learn how to apply consulting tools and frameworks to engage clients, identify and analyze organizational problems, effectively present their findings, formulate recommendations, and implement change initiatives. Through a variety of applied learning experiences, students will sharpen their analytical, critical thinking, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills. This certificate is relevant to anyone interested in identifying new business opportunities, tasked with managing organizational change, or responsible for client relationships, as well as those seeking traditional consulting careers.

NOTE: For business majors, no more than two major field requirement courses may be counted toward the certificate.

MANGT 515 - Managerial Consulting
This course provides an overview of the management consulting process. Students will learn how to apply consulting tools and frameworks to engage clients, analyze organizational problems, formulate and present recommendations, and implement change initiatives. The content is relevant to anyone interested in analyzing internal business opportunities, tasked with managing organizational change, or those pursuing traditional consulting careers.

ENTRP 540 - Entrepreneurial Consulting
This course is designed to provide students and faculty in the entrepreneurship program the opportunity to give business assistance to small firms in the university community.

MANGT 521 - Managerial Decision Analytics
Managerial decision analytics uses descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive data analytics to improve organizational decision-making processes.

MANGT 523 - Human Resource Analytics
Explores using data analytics to examine human resource management issues in organizations. A diverse set of research methods and analytic techniques will be used to collect, organize, analyze, and visualize data to examine problems and formulate solutions that can help organizations better manage their HR processes.

MANGT 525 - Organizational Management and Data Analytics
Provides students with new knowledge and capability in the use of a diverse set of research methods and data analytic techniques to collect, organize, analyze, and visualize data to examine organizational management problems and present solutions that can help create a sustainable competitive advantage.

ENTRP 350 - Technology and Innovation Management
This course presents the main issues in the management of innovation and an appreciation of the relevant skills needed to manage innovation at both strategic and operational levels. The course focuses on four themes: (1) the source, discovery, and evaluation of innovation and opportunities; (2) the provisions of innovation (products and services) that satisfy the needs of customers; (3) the development of mechanisms to appropriate the returns from the exploitation of the innovation; and (4) the organization of efforts to innovate.

FINAN 623 - Financial Modeling
This course is designed to provide an in-depth knowledge of the use of Excel for use in the corporate finance and equity valuation environment. Topics include: use of Excel, developing models in Excel, developing functional understanding of how to use Excel.

FINAN 663 - Mergers and Acquisition*
Presents the theories and empirical evidence on mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring, and analyzes the effects of various policy options on stock values of acquirer and target companies. * Must be accepted to Financial Analyst Track

MANGT 260 - Managing Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace
Provides a framework for understanding how diversity and a culture of inclusion interfaces with all aspects of an organization. Topics include the business case for diversity and inclusion (D&I), related demographic, technological, and social changes, current events and their associated impact in the workplace, diversity recruitment and retention, and theories and strategies for creating inclusion. On an individual level, students will develop their ability to communicate across differences. On an organizational level, students will gain skills to develop and present a strategic plan for diversity and inclusion.

MANGT 520 - Organizational Behavior
An examination of human behavior in organizations to prepare individuals for their managerial careers. The course provides a framework for students to diagnose and manage issues associated with personality and individual differences, perceptions, motivation, diversity and inclusion, fairness and equity, decision making, group functioning, conflict management, culture, and leadership in organizations.

MANGT 530 - Labor Relations and Negotiations
Provides broad coverage of the goals and operations of labor unions as well as the interactions of labor and management. In addition, this course introduces students to the bargaining and negotiation process within organizations. Effective negotiation strategies are taught and individual negotiation skills are enhanced through opportunities to participate in negotiation simulations.

MANGT 531 - Human Resources Management
This course provides an overview of the human resource systems and processes needed to achieve organizational effectiveness and strategic success. All key functional areas including human resource planning, staffing, performance management, employee development, and compensation are addressed.

MANGT 550 - Organizational Training and Development
The process of training and developing the human resources in organizations, which includes organizational diagnosis, needs assessment, program design, program implementation, and the evaluation of program effectiveness. Current trends in the content and process of training and development activities are also examined.

MANGT 553 - Business Project Management
Provides an in-depth coverage of project management concepts and methodologies required for service and manufacturing operations. Topics to be covered include, but are not limited to: project selection and evaluation, project organization, management or project team members organization, project scheduling, project budgeting, project monitoring and control and project closure.


Certificate Requirements:

Certificate can be completed by degree seeking students at Kansas State University, obtained as a credential on its own (free-standing), as a non-degree, certificate seeking student, or earned post-baccalaureate.

Students must achieve a cumulative 2.5 GPA on all courses taken to fulfill the requirements of the certificate program.
