Internal Sales Competitions
The National Strategic Selling Institute hosts three internal sales competitions for our students. Competition partners include Edward Jones, Huhtamaki and Lockton. Because of generous donations from our partners thousands of dollars have been awarded to students in merit scholarships.
Edward Jones Sales Competition
The National Strategic Selling Institute hosts is excited to host our annual Edward Jones Sales Competition on Friday, February 17, 2023, in the NSSI Suite (2121 Business Building). In this fictional role-play scenario, students will represent Edward Jones Financial Advisors. Your objective for this sales call is to set up a second appointment with the prospects to get them to agree to use you and Edward Jones for financial advising services, and to discuss more specific retirement goals and investments.
Because you will not be selling a particular financial product you should sell Edward Jones as a reputable, trustworthy firm and yourself as a representative of that firm. Eligibility
All full-time students enrolled in the College of Business or College of Health and Human Sciences are eligible to compete.
Registration
If you are intersted in competing, the registration deadline is Friday, February 10, 2023. Registration is limited to the first 24 students that complete the registration form below. Late registrations will not be accepted.
Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email with access to a sign-up to schedule your in-person role-play time slot on Friday, February 17, 2023. Students must be signed up for their role-play time slot by Monday, February 13, 2023. Your role-play time will be confirmed via an Outlook calendar invitation from the K-State Sales Program.
Competition Rules
You will be making a sales call to a fictional prospect with an Edward Jones representative playing the role of your prospect. You will be evaluated on the sales skills you exhibit, including your ability to get a commitment for scheduling a follow-up meeting. You will have 12 minutes to complete the sales call in person. All sales calls will be timed and time begins when the door is opened to the room in which the sales call will take place.
Please note, business professional is strongly encouraged. You must check-in at the reception desk in the NSSI Suite in 2121 Business Building 15 minutes before your scheduled sales call appointment. If you do not check in at the reception desk 15 minutes before your appointment time, your appointment may be canceled. All sales calls will be held in the NSSI Suite in the assigned role-play rooms designated for the competition. Each sales call will begin promptly at the scheduled time which will be confirmed with each student via an Outlook calendar invitation.
Your sales call will be evaluated and scored by Edward Jones representatives. Sales calls will be evaluated and scored on various aspects of the sales call, including overall approach, identification of needs, presentation of solutions, resolving concerns, and gaining commitment; other aspects will also be evaluated, including general communication skills, enthusiasm, and confidence.
Prizes
Prizes will be given to the TOP FIVE individuals, each receiving a $500 student merit award. All student merit awards will be awarded through the student's KSIS accounts, with more information provided to the winners.

Huhtamaki Sales Competition
The National Strategic Selling Institute is excited to host our annual Huhtamaki Sales Competition on Friday, Spring 2024, in the NSSI Suite (2121 Business Building). In this fictional role-play scenario, students will represent Huhtamaki Sales Reps. Your objective for this sales call is to set up a second appointment with the prospects to get them to agree to use Huhtamaki for their food's packaging.

Lockton Sales Competition
The National Strategic Selling Institute is excited to host our Spring 2024 Lockton Sales Competition. The competition is sponsored by Lockton Companies and is scheduled to take place in Spring 2024. In this fictional role-play scenario, students will represent a Lockton Associate. All events will be held at the College of Business at Kansas State University and will take place over three rounds.
Eligibility
All students who meet the following criteria are eligible to compete. Registration is limited to the first 30 students.
- Full-time student enrolled in the College of Business.
- Pursuing a certificate or major in Professional Strategic Selling.
Registration
Students who meet the criteria above and wish to participate must register to compete. All students must register by Spring 2024. Late registration will not be accepted. To register, please complete the following form.
Once we have received your registration a confirmation email will be sent to you at our earliest convenience with the role-play scenario, judging rubric(s), and other important information. Included in the confirmation email will be a link to sign-up for your Round 1 role-play time. All registered students must sign-up for their Round 1 role-play time slot by Spring 2024. Time slots will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis, and students will receive a calendar invitation from the K-State Sales Program with their confirmed time slot.
Prizes
The Spring 2024 Lockton Sales Competition will consist of three rounds. All students who register and compete in Round 1 will receive a $25 student merit award. The students that advance to Round 2 will receive an additional $25 student merit award. The students that advance to Round 3, or the final round, will receive an additional $50 student merit.
In addition, the top two winners will receive a guaranteed internship offer. One will be associated with Mylo, a Lockton Company, and the other would be associated with Lockton Companies.
