Area of study at K-State:
Major: Organizational Management and International Studies
Minor: Chinese and French
Hometown:
Belo Horizonte, Brazil
What is your current position?
I currently work as a languages tutor at K-State, a Residential Assistant (RA) in the Resident Halls and as an intern for the Alumni Association.
How does your training help you with your current position?
I believe that my OM degree has helped me develop a well-rounded perspective of business, and with my International Business certificate I am able to focus on international topics in management as well. The program's emphasis on leadership, creative thinking, and strategic planning aligns well with my interests and long-term career goals, while also teaching me important aspects such as presentation skills.
Why did you choose OM as your major?
I chose OM as my major because I love how versatile it is. I have many different interests and it was a great option for me to combine all of them with my degree. I am very interested in topics in International Business, so I was able to pair my OM degree with a secondary major in International Studies, minors in Chinese and French and certificates in International Business and Professional Strategic Selling. Since a lot of classes were already in the OM track, it was easy for me to really personalize my K-State experience.
Are you involved with student organizations?
I am! I really enjoy being involved on campus. I am part of the Menard Family Scholars, Student Alumni Board, Risk Management Student Fellows (CRMER), and I serve as the President for the Modern Languages Student Association (MLSA) and the Vice-President for the Interdisciplinary Risk Management Association (IRMA). I’ll also be serving as the Director of Alumni and Legacy for Blue Key Senior Honorary next year.
What is the best aspect about being an OM student at K-State?
I have really enjoyed how supportive the professors are and how willing they are to give me suggestions and feedback. I can see that they truly care about their students and want us to succeed. I also appreciate the versatility, opportunities to study abroad and the classes that we take and can choose from as our electives. I have loved all my management classes so far!
What are your future goals?
Over the next few years, I would like to continue learning more about International Business, making use of the languages I have learned to connect and do business with people from different parts of the world. I’m also considering going to grad school, maybe in China or in Europe, and possibly becoming a university professor in the future!
What advice do you have for current or prospective OM students?
Connect with your professors, peers and K-State staff! You can learn so much from others’ experiences and college is the perfect time to build those connections. Also, make sure to take advantage of all the opportunities K-State has to offer, from organizations on campus, to business case competitions and career fairs. Having a wide variety of experiences will be so valuable when applying for jobs and it truly broadens our perspectives.
