How did your degree prepare you for your current position?
My degree in Business and Leadership served as a solid foundation, instilling the confidence I needed to navigate the professional world effectively. The courses not only taught me invaluable knowledge, but also enhanced my ability to engage in meaningful discussions with individuals from diverse backgrounds. This exposure sharpened my problem-solving skills, proving to be crucial in the consulting field. Additionally, the strategic thinking and decision-making expertise I’ve developed have been key when tackling the complexities inherent to the rapidly evolving technology sector.
Were you involved with student organizations while at K-State?
I was involved in two Business Clubs: Women in Business and Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). I was also a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Upon my return from Paderno del Grappa, Italy where I studied abroad under the CIMBA program, I was chosen to be a Study Abroad Advocate for two semesters.
What memories from your time at K-State would you like to share?
During the summer before my senior year, studying abroad in Italy provided me with a transformative experience, particularly through the International Marketing course taught by Dr. Swinder Janda from KSU's Marketing Department. This course exceeded my expectations by offering immersive learning experiences beyond the classroom. We explored various businesses, including the Villa Sandi winery, to gain a deeper understanding of international marketing practices and cultural nuances. Through collaborative group projects and shared experiences, our class formed a tight-knit bond. I continue to stay connected with many classmates, cherishing the network I've built. For anyone considering studying abroad, especially with a focus on business, I wholeheartedly recommend the CIMBA program—it's an enriching and lasting experience.
What are your future goals?
In my journey within the healthcare technology sector, I envision moving into a Project Management role that aligns with the valuable skills instilled by the College of Business at KSU and the experiences I’ve gained while in Consulting. Additionally, I also see myself contributing within a Change Management position, aiding clinicians through the complexities of implementing a new Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. While my work at Oracle Health is fulfilling, I believe that one’s job shouldn’t be the sole source of happiness and purpose. Rather, it should serve to facilitate the pursuit of personal passions. Carving out time for yourself and finding a balance with your passions adds a lot to a fulfilling and well-rounded life.
What advice do you have for current or prospective OM students?
Always say yes, and never give up. It can sometimes be uncomfortable to put yourself out there, especially in unfamiliar situations, but that is where true growth happens. This applies to both your professional and personal life. Additionally, offer your assistance to both peers and your future organization, even in areas where you may feel less qualified initially. It is something I wish I would’ve accepted earlier in my career. You can achieve anything you put your mind to; there’s truly no secret to success. Formulate a plan, stay disciplined, and embrace the journey that comes with it.
