How did your degree prepare you for your current position?
My degree in HR provided me with the knowledge, skills, and perspective necessary to succeed in my career. It helped prepare me to handle the complexities of effectively managing human capital within my organization.
Were you involved with student organizations while at K-State?
I was a member of the KSU SHRM Student Chapter.
I completed the KSU College of Business Professional Advantage Program.
I was a Mentee in the KSU College of Business Executive Mentor Program. I was awarded the Mentee of the Year award in 2018, the semester after I graduated.
What memories from your time at K-State would you like to share?
I was a non-traditional student, starting classes 14 years after high school. That was one of the scariest and most exciting things I have ever done, but it was SO worth it! During my journey at KSU, the College of Business moved to the current Business Building (which is amazing!), I built so many lifelong relationships (both professional and personal), and I learned so many things about myself. The College of Business was such a great place to earn my degree, and the faculty and staff really provided a strong network of support and encouragement.
What are your future goals?
I am a lifelong learner and my goal is to always try to fill those around me with the same tools and knowledge as much as I do for myself. I want to leave a positive lasting impression on those that I come into contact with, and I would love to conquer my fear of spiders!
What advice do you have for current or prospective HR students?
It is so important to network! Participate in at least one student and one local professional organization and build those relationships for yourself. Believe in yourself, and don’t be afraid to ask people for help. As a student, I joined the KSU SHRM Student Chapter, found out about our local Human Resource Management Network and joined, started volunteering at meetings, and that is how I earned my HR Internship and found the path to the position I have now.
