Online Accounting Course: Speak the Language of Business

We are excited to offer a year-long online accounting course for high school students that would not otherwise have the opportunity to take an accounting class in high school.

With sponsorship from our generous donors, we are able to offer the course free of charge to students who are interested in expanding their knowledge in accounting.

Based on course performance, students are eligible to earn three (3) hours of accounting credit for ACCTG 231 - Introduction to Managerial Accounting at K-State. Credit is awarded on the student transcript after they are accepted, enrolled and successfully complete ACCTG 241 - Introduction to Financial Accounting at K-State.

Herbel Accounting Fellows: Accounting Scholars

The Herbel Accounting Fellows program promotes three key components for first-year and transfer students interested in a career in Accounting: Community, Connection and Exploration.

• Community: The purpose of the Herbel Accounting Fellows program is to provide students a way to connect early in their college career with accounting as a profession and with other accounting students. Fellows will be part of an embodied and experiential learning experience that will allow them to see Accounting in action. Students will also work on developing personal and professional skills that will help them to be successful in life while in college and after graduation.
• Connection: Fellows will connect with others and take part in this journey together. During the weekly one-hour connections course, Fellows will meet with other members of their cohort, accounting faculty leaders, and teaching assistants who are Herbel Fellows Alumni. Throughout the connections course, we will focus on the following three key objectives:
  1. Relationship building with fellow outstanding accounting Fellows,
  2. Developing success skills to help with navigating college, career, and the Fellows professional future, and
  3. Understanding the role of accounting in the broader business setting.
• Exploration:

  Fellows will explore introductory accounting during two condensed introductory accounting courses their first semester at K-State. This allows Fellows to take a deep dive into principles early in their accounting journey which then springboards them into the remainder of the accounting curriculum.

  Fellows will then journey together to Washington, D.C. each November for a packed three-day trip where the cohort takes in the rich history of our country and also meets with a variety of firms and individuals in the accounting profession.

Herbel Fellows Scholarships

Scholarships are available to high-performing first-year and transfer students that plan to study accounting. These students are enrolled in the Herbel Accounting Fellows connections course and participate in a number of activities throughout their entire degree program including field trips, networking events with employers, and much more.
