Virtual Lab

Initial setup

1. Download and install client for your OS:
   Windows
   macOS
   iOS and iPadOS
   Android and ChromeOS
2. Press the Subscribe button, or if you do not see a Subscribe button, press the + button and select Add Workspace.
3. Log in with your @ksu.edu email account. You may be prompted to enter your email twice.

Connecting to the virtual lab

1. Launch the Remote Desktop app you installed above if it's not already running.
2. Press the CBA Virtual Lab tile.
3. Enter your password again when prompted. Leave your username in the example@users.campus format.
4. Once you’ve finished with the virtual lab, sign out from the start menu.

1. In a web browser, navigate to https://client.wvd.microsoft.com/arm/webclient/index.html
2. Log in with your @ksu.edu email and password if prompted.
3. Press the CBA Virtual Lab tile.
4. If prompted for allowing access to local resources, press Allow.
5. Enter your password again when prompted.
6. Once you’ve finished with the virtual lab, sign out from the start menu.

If you’re using the client, you can simply copy and paste files like you normally would.

If you’re using a web browser, you can upload files from your computer to the virtual lab with the Upload button () in the top right of the screen. Once your file has uploaded, you’ll find it in the file explorer under This PC\Remote Desktop Virtual Drive on RDWebClient\Uploads.

We strongly recommend saving files to OneDrive from within the virtual lab, and downloading the file from OneDrive to your computer if needed. If you’re using the web browser and need to download files directly to your computer, you can also copy the file in the virtual lab to the This PC\Remote Desktop Virtual Drive on RDWebClient\Downloads folder and your web browser should prompt you to download it to your personal device.

You should save your files to your K-State OneDrive or download them to your personal computer. When you log in, you’ll also have 5 gigabytes of storage allocated to you for your Desktop, Documents, Downloads, and other folders in your profile. This storage space is not intended to be permanent, however, and will be deleted regularly between semesters and if you haven’t logged in for a while. If you receive a message saying you’re low on disk space, you’ll need to delete some of the files out of your Desktop, Documents, and Downloads folders.

If the system detects you’re logged into the virtual lab but not actively using it, you’ll be logged out after one hour of inactivity. Any unsaved files will be lost and cannot be recovered.

To save on costs, we only turn on enough virtual lab machines to support the people actively using them. Occasionally, the system may need to turn on another virtual machine for you to use. This process may take 2-5 minutes, but you should be able to login once it finishes.

From the start menu, click the user icon and select Sign Off.

If you run into any issues connecting to the virtual lab, wait one minute and try again. Make sure you've got a strong internet connection as well. If you're still unable to connect after a few attempts, please reach out to cbait@ksu.edu.

If you're using the client and need to change the display settings of the virtual lab session, you can right-click the "CBA Virtual Lab" tile and choose the Edit Settings option. Toggle off the option to use the default settings (or for some clients, enable the option to use custom settings). You can now configure the display configuration to use only one display or adjust the other settings to your preferences.

Each person is allocated 5 gigabytes of temporary storage space for their use. If you’re trying to download, save, or copy a file and you receive a message saying you’re out of space, you’ll need to delete some other files from your Desktop, Documents, or Downloads.

If you exit the virtual lab without signing out of the virtual computer, your session will go into a “disconnected” state. If you don’t log back in within five minutes, you’ll be logged out automatically and any unsaved work will be lost.

If you’re in the web browser, check that there are no extensions or popups at the top of the browser window that have pushed the web page down. For example, some password managers may pop-up a bar asking if you’d like to save your password, and you’ll need to close the bar.
