What was something you learned at K-State that you still use to run your business today?

  • Hard work pays off.
  • Do what you say you will do.
  • Don't overpromise and underdeliver.
  • Keep your commitments and don't make excuses, but offer solutions.
  • Networking is essential as it takes a village even if you are a small business.
  • Outsource what you don't do well.
  • Surround yourself with others that compliment your skillsets.

What inspires you?

I love promoting people and seeing others learn and grow. I hire and train a lot and while I have high expectations of my team and their performance, I have had a major positive impact on many people over my career.

If you could give a new entrepreneur one piece of advice, what would it be?

You cannot do it all yourself. You have to have help, whether that's an outside accountant, a personal assistant or marketing/PR help. You have to trust your gut on decisions even when outside consultants might steer you differently. Be open to their input so you can learn from them but not every piece of advice you will receive will fit with your corporate vision/values.
