Accelerator FAQ

What is the Accelerator program?

Accelerator is a venture support program based out of Kansas State University. The program provides entrepreneurs access to world-class K-State faculty, students, and alumni support to help launch or grow their business. The program is designed to give aspiring entrepreneurs and first-time founders the business basics to turn concepts into ventures, or give their ventures a competitive edge.

Where will the Accelerator take place?

For those participating in the growth-track, the program will be hosted virtually. For those participating in the idea-track, once a week workshops will be held in the Center for the Advancement of Entrepreneurship, located in the Building Business.

When will the Accelerator take place?

The 6-week idea track program and the 8-week growth track will take place each fall and spring semester. Please reference the main page for important dates and deadlines.

How much does it cost?

Accelerator is free of charge for participants, thanks to the generosity of our donors and partners. There is no application fee, no cost to participate, and Accelerator will not retain any equity or ownership stake. The application process, however, will be competitive and selective.

Do I need to be a student or alumni of K-State to participate?

While K-State students, faculty and alumni are encouraged to apply, the program is open to any Kansas-based business. Participants will be competitively selected based on the viability of business idea, the entrepreneur’s motivation to successfully complete the program, and the alignment of venture needs with accelerator resources.

What will I get if I am selected to participate?

Depending on your track, participants in the Accelerator program will receive exclusive access to the faculty-led sessions, startup and other business mentors, and optional hands-on research completed by K-State business students. A total of $60,000 in equity-free cash grants will be awarded, based on performance and completion of milestones. In addition, the estimated value for each participant is approximately $10,000 in support and in-kind resources.

Can my business partner participate?

If your business has multiple co-founders, the initial founding team is welcome to participate together. Please note this on the application. Likewise, if you are a solo founder, you are also welcome to apply and participate individually.
