Curriculum

Learning Outcomes

As a finance major, you will learn the principles, concepts, and tools essential to financial decision making. In conjunction with the accounting, economics, management, and other quantitative techniques that you will learn as your progress through the degree program, you will be well-prepared for a career in finance. Additionally, effective written and oral communications skills and the ability to work in groups are essential skills for success you learn in your business and non-business coursework.

Hands-on experience

Students in one of our finance courses manage a real-money investment fund worth more than $1 million and furnished by one of our alumni families, Dennis and Sally von Waaden.

K-State Finance Scholars Program

The Kansas State University Finance Scholars Program is housed by the Gates Capital Management Center for Financial Analysis in the College of Business Administration and supported by the Department of Finance. It is a selective program that focuses on preparing students for careers in high-end investment management, investment banking, and the buy-side of financial markets. This innovative program serves top finance students who are committed to a rigorous curriculum and to the prospects of a rewarding career in the financial industry. See the required courses here.

Affiliations

The Kansas State University College of Business Department of Finance has CFA Institute Affiliation. This designation shows that our curriculum is closely tied to the practice of investment management and is helpful to students preparing for the CFA® Program exams.
